Route 1 (the realistic one): Join a company as a professional
Most business professionals move to Japan on the Engineer / Specialist in Humanities / International Services visa โ the same skilled-work visa that covers IT, and which also covers business, finance, consulting, marketing, and international roles.

Route 2 (much harder now): Start your own business
The Business Manager visa lets you run a company in Japan, but from 16 October 2025 the bar rose sharply:

Japanese / PR / spouse of either
For you or a qualifying employee
Or a master's / doctorate
You'll also need a physical office (no home offices) and a business plan reviewed by a certified consultant/accountant.
Softer entry โ the Startup Visa
Lets founders enter Japan for up to 2 years to set up before meeting the full Business Manager requirements. If entrepreneurship is your goal, start here.
