What is Japan's HSP visa?
The Highly Skilled Professional (HSP) visa is Japan's preferential residence status for foreign talent. If you score 70+ points on the official points table — based on education, experience, salary, age, and bonus factors — you gain access to benefits unavailable on regular work visas: a 5-year stay, spouse work rights, and most importantly, a fast track to permanent residency.
70 points gets you PR eligibility after 3 years. 80 points cuts that to just 1 year — compared to the normal 10+ years for regular work visa holders. For Indians planning to build a long-term career or settle in Japan, hitting these thresholds is one of the most valuable immigration goals you can achieve.
