JASSO Honors is a monthly stipend for self-funded international students already studying in Japan. The amount varies by institution type: ¥48,000/month (~₹28,000) for degree-level students (undergraduate, master's, PhD) or ¥30,000/month (~₹18,000) for Japanese language institute students. It doesn't cover tuition—your institution nominates you based on academic performance.
For self-funded international students already enrolled in Japan. Strong academic record required. University/institution nominates you. Degree-level applicants require JLPT N2+, EJU Japanese 200+, or CEFR B2+; language-institute and preparatory-course students are exempt from the language requirement.
For students already enrolled in Japan who are paying their own tuition but need help with living costs. Covers degree programs AND Japanese language institutes. The catch: you must already be in Japan and your institution must nominate you—you can't apply directly.
