Rotary Yoneyama is Japan's largest private scholarship foundation, with an overseas-candidate track for students still in their home country who are scheduled to enrol at a Japanese university. The stipend is ¥100,000–¥140,000/month depending on level, plus up to ¥250,000 travel reimbursement. Recipients join the Rotary community in Japan.
For students still overseas who are scheduled to enrol at a Japanese university or graduate school. JLPT N3 or above required at the time of application. You must find and apply to the Japanese university yourself first and submit a copy of that application. Graduate applicants need a recommendation letter from a supervisor at the target graduate school. Research students are not eligible.
For students still overseas who have applied to (or will apply to) a Japanese university and can demonstrate JLPT N3 or higher. The catch: you must secure your own university admission first, and graduate applicants need a supervisor recommendation from the target school.
