Tohoku University International Excellence Scholarship provides tuition reduction for undergrad, master's, and early doctoral students. Awards are ¥450,000–¥900,000/year depending on level. This is a tuition fee reduction, not a monthly stipend.
Undergraduate, master's, early-doctoral (first two years; later years fall under LEAP) and professional-degree students. Selected on entrance-exam results or academic performance; financial need also considered. Replaces Tohoku's need-based tuition-exemption programme, which ends with AY2026.
For international students admitted to Tohoku University. The catch: this is a tuition reduction (not a monthly stipend), and doctoral students are only covered for the first two years.
